MPx200 sound quality

Hmm…this phone comes with both a mono headset and a stereo headset. Which teased me into thinking that the phone, plus a large SD card, would make an awesome MP3 player. However, using the stereo headset, the sound quality leaves something to be desired. There’s pretty much no bass response whatsoever.
So now I’m wondering if it’s the phone, or the headset. It’s got a pretty small plug (2mm maybe?), and of course my normal headphones don’t have this side of plug.
Any ideas? Or has anyone else tried this, and could report what they found?

Might be the headset. Try this link - http://pc-mobile.net/mpx200.htm. They sell a conversion cable to go from a 2.5mm plug to a 3.5mm for $6.00. I’m going to order it and try it out. I’ll let you know

I’ve got an adapter hooked up to some nice earphones (Etymotic ER-4P)… still very little bass, although anything is better than the supplied headphones.
I am hoping that someone comes out with a new media player with equalizer controls that plays WMA. If you have mostly MP3 or OGG you could try PocketMusic.

I found the same problem with the packaged headphones. I tried it using an adapter with some headphones I know sound nice. It was still bass light and very harsh sounding. I tried Pocketmusic, which includes an equaliser and could achieve acceptable sound, but there are interuptions to the music, suggesting that the MPX200 processor isn’t coping with realtime equialising. Anymore ideas?

I’ve bought the $6 adapter. With decent headphones, the sound is OK (certainly not the best). Plus I just cannot get enough volume out of the phone. However, using the adapter with a FM modulator in my car works excellent, as well as just jacking it into a stereo. If there are portable powered headphones, I bet it would sound good.

Hi!
The jack on the phone is micro stereo headphone jack and the regular (walkmen type) headphones come with standard mini headphone jack. RadioShack has an adapter for $4.99, if I am not mistaken.
Using high quality phones the sound is just OK, the bass is simply not there. When I plug it into my car stereo and adjust the equalizer the sound is actually quite good. I am using it in the past few months and I am happy with it.
This phone has a pretty much underpowered CPU and memory, so a sw equalizer would be a challange.

I have an adapter to use with my own headset, sound only comes out in one ear? Any sug. This phone does lack a bit of bass.

For the person only hearing sound out of one ear, you probably have a stereo–>mono adapter and need to get a stereo–>stereo version.
The radio shack adapter sucks, I have it and there isn’t a snug fit so the connection isn’t stable and you have to basically hold them together all the time.

I bought a stereo/stereo adapter, but i still hear from only 1 ear :x
